[Sticky] How to use the WRBB Newsblog

Hey DJs!

As you probably know, we here at WRBB require that the news be read every day at Noon and 5PM. I'll have a signup sheet posted weekly in the on-air studio for people to initial times when they plan on reading the news. What you actually will read will be posted here on this blog for you to pull up.

When you do the news, please speak loudly and clearly. Any critique of the events described (which is very welcome and an excellent way of providing good on-air content) should be saved until after the read is complete. Your script should go as follows:

"Good afternoon, my name is _________. This is a WRBB News Update. The time is ____.

[proceed to reading the content. be sure to mention sources when written.]

This has been a WRBB News Update, I'm _______. For comments and questions, please email us at WRBBNewsDesk@gmail.com."

Enjoy it! I'll keep the articles relevant and interesting so we have fun doing it.

WORLD NEWS
Manhunt for train fire suspects

Police in India have issued sketches of two men they believe got off a train to Pakistan just moments before it was hit by a deadly bombing on Sunday night. The men got off the train "15 minutes" before the blast, the police said.

At least 67 people were killed when explosives started a fire on two carriages of the Delhi-Lahore train.

Pakistan's foreign minister has arrived in Delhi for scheduled peace talks. He has vowed that the attack will not undermine peace efforts with India. Mr Kasuri is expected to visit some of the victims of the attack who are being treated in hospital in Delhi.

Ahead of his arrival, Mr Kasuri noted the attack was timed to coincide with his visit. He said the bombing should "hasten the peace process". "The governments of India and Pakistan should not allow the perpetrators of this incident to achieve their objectives." (BBC NEWS)

New footage of JFK's last moments

A previously unreleased film of President John F Kennedy's motorcade has revealed new details of the final moments before his assassination. The silent film shows the president and his wife Jackie shortly before the fatal shot was fired.

Amateur photographer George Jefferies held onto the film for more than 40 years believing it was unimportant. But Dallas museum curator Gary Mack says it is bound to provide new fuel to the conspiracy theorists.

The film shows the president's coat bunched up on his back - a detail some will see as evidence that the bullet wounds on the president's body did not match those on his jacket.

The film also shows "the clearest, best film of Jackie in the motorcade", says Mr Mack.

Also visible is secret service agent Clint Hill, riding on the back of the car. After the shots were fired, Mr Hill jumped onto the back of the vehicle and drove with it to the hospital.

The new film only came to light when Mr Jefferies mentioned it in conversation to his son-in-law, Wayne Graham, who persuaded him to donate it to the museum. (BBC NEWS)

Parents protest students' penalties - Some teens deny drinking at party
Some parents and students are up in arms after more than a dozen Walpole High School students were suspended from athletics and others were threatened with probation from the National Honor Society for allegedly attending a large, alcohol-fueled house party last month.

Several parents complained that the police department was overzealous and had wrongly compiled a list of partygoers based on second hand accounts and hazy recollections from students, and that students were not given a chance to defend themselves. It was also unfair to discipline students who abstained from alcohol as harshly as students who drank excessively, they said.

Police and school officials throughout the area have various strategies to combat teen drinking and driving. But the aggressive approach -- and the vocal objections by students and parents -- are unusual. The parents say they will ask the School Committee next week to investigate the matter.

"As a community we've been tolerant of underage drinking to some degree," he said. "We have to send the message that underage drinking will not be tolerated."
Mary McAvoy , a senior who was suspended from the track team for allegedly violating the school's drug and alcohol policy, won an injunction against school officials last week in Norfolk Superior Court, allowing her to compete in the state track meet the following day. McAvoy, captain of the track team, said in her complaint that she went to the party only to pick up a friend and did not bring or drink alcohol. According to her complaint, school officials produced no proof of her misconduct. It also alleged that some students disciplined for drinking at the party were falsely accused. (The Boston Globe)

CELEBRITY NEWS
According to new reports, Britney checked in to rehab last week after her mother, Lynne Spears, staged an intervention.

Unfortunately for everyone, as we all know, the defiant and delusional former pop star checked right out of the treatment facility after only 24 hours!

On Wednesday of last week, Lynne took action after she found her daughter incapacitated and sprawled out on the floor in the middle of the day.

Sounds like a party!

According to a source, she had been 'partying heavily and was completely out of it.'

Lynne Spears then reportedly threatened her 25-year-old daughter that she would take her two children away from her unless she checked into rehab.

Trashney left the Crossroads rehab facility in Antigua after just one day and she headed back to Los Angeles, which infuriated her mother, then in Louisiana.

The pair reportedly got into a huge fight over the phone, and shortly thereafter a rebellious Spears shaved off all of her hair and got two new tattoos.

A friend of Britney's says, "[She's been] thriving on the publicity of her recent behaviour. She feels a failure professionally and unloved in her personal life. It's as if she is getting a kick out of doing increasingly erratic things just to see how the public and media react. Sadly, she is getting confused by what she sees as adoration, when it's actually her fans reacting in horror."

Thankfully, Britney has not been seen with her children in public for at least a week.

We hope it stays that way for a while!

ANTI-FLAG's LOSS
Politically minded punkers Anti-Flag were forced to cut their Canadian tour short after bassist Chris Barker's sister and her boyfriend were killed. While Barker, known to fans as Chris #2, did not reveal details of their deaths, he did post a brief message on the band's MySpace page, which reads, "Of all the people I know, my sister was the most proud of our band. If you live in the Pittsburgh area you may have met her. It was not uncommon for her to strike up a conversation with anyone wearing an Anti-Flag pin, patch or T-shirt. She was anxious to meet anyone who was a member of the community. My sister had two beautiful children, who I'm sure will be just as curious and just as loving." ... Finnish goth metallers H.I.M. will enter Finnvox Studios in Helsinki later this month, with producers Tim Palmer (Sponge, Ned's Atomic Dustbin) and Hiili Hiilesmaa (Sepultura, Lordi) to begin tracking the follow-up to 2005's Dark Light. The new disc is due in July. ...

FOXY BROWN's CATFIGHT
Foxy Brown was arrested at a Pembroke Pines, Florida, beauty-supply store on Thursday, The Miami Herald reports. Police said Brown — who was booked on charges of battery and resisting arrest and was held overnight on $1,500 bond — spat on and threw hair glue at Hayssam Ghoneim, an employee of Queen Beauty Supply, who asked the rapper to leave the store as it was closing for the night. Authorities tracked down Brown, who had left the shop by the time police responded to the store's 911 call, and asked her to return to the store as part of a criminal investigation. Brown refused, according to the report, and struggled with an officer. No injuries were listed on the police report, but Ghoneim plans to press charges, according to the Herald. The rapper was sentenced in October to three years probation and mandatory anger-management classes in connection with a 2004 altercation at a New York nail salon. ...

HILTON'S BDAY BASH
It looks like the NBA All-Star Game might not be the hottest event in Vegas this weekend. Heiress/ reality-TV star/ wannabe singer Paris Hilton will celebrate her birthday on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Sin City. Some of Hilton's famous friends — including Fergie, Snoop Dogg, Nicole Richie and Fat Joe — will help her blow out the candles, according to a press release. Also, one of her musically minded pals will perform a surprise concert for guests. ... Is there any reality in the rumor that Mariah Carey honored a request by producers to fly coach to the set of her drama "Tennessee" — only she bought out the entire economy class to keep it to herself? "No, it's not true," Carey told MTV Europe. "That is probably one of those things that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life, but that would be pretty funny if somebody was stupid enough do that. I took my tour bus down because I wanted to be in the environment, like experience what it would be like to live in the area where we are filming and just go to real places to eat and meet people along the way and stuff like that." ...
