5PM Broadcast, Tuesday, July 3rd
We begin with breaking news here on campus:
The Northeastern News is reporting today that an electrical malfunction caused a transformer at Columbus Place to begin smoking around 2PM.
Four fire engines and several other emergency vehicles clogged Columbus Avenue while NSTAR, the electrical company, investigated the system. Two ladders were extended to the roof of the six-story building and the avenue was closed in front of the building.
A brief power outage followed the fire in the immediate block surrounding 716 Columbus Avenue, including the Davenport dorms and Squashbusters. It is unclear at that time how long the outage lasted.

In local news, Law.com reports today that a Massachusetts bar examination applicant is suing the state today, claiming a question he chose not to answer regarding parenting rights in a same-sex marriage violated his freedom of religion. The question would have given him the necessary points to pass the bar, which he failed by a narrow margin.
The Board of Bar Examiners declined to comment at this time.
