[Sticky] How to use the WRBB Newsblog

Hey DJs!

As you probably know, we here at WRBB require that the news be read every day at Noon and 5PM. I'll have a signup sheet posted weekly in the on-air studio for people to initial times when they plan on reading the news. What you actually will read will be posted here on this blog for you to pull up.

When you do the news, please speak loudly and clearly. Any critique of the events described (which is very welcome and an excellent way of providing good on-air content) should be saved until after the read is complete. Your script should go as follows:

"Good afternoon, my name is _________. This is a WRBB News Update. The time is ____.

[proceed to reading the content. be sure to mention sources when written.]

This has been a WRBB News Update, I'm _______. For comments and questions, please email us at WRBBNewsDesk@gmail.com."

Enjoy it! I'll keep the articles relevant and interesting so we have fun doing it.

Cheers everyone,
Andy

Two former Tufts University employees have been indicted on charges of stealing nearly $1 million from the university, Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr. announced yesterday.

According to the indictments, Josephine Nealley, director of the student activities office from 1996 to 2007, and Raymond Rodriguez, budget and fiscal coordinator of the office from 2001 to 2007, stole funds in two separate acts.

Investigators discovered that Nealley had control of bank accounts from the student activities office after the Tufts internal audit team received an anonymous tip.

Nealley used her access to transfer money into her personal accounts, Leone said.

Rodriguez wrote himself a check from a university account for $100,000, which he deposited into a personal account he used to pay credit card bills, investigators said.

Starbucks Corp. will close 600 US coffee shops and eliminate up to 12,000 jobs, the most in its history, as chief executive Howard Schultz slows the chain's expansion after it doubled in size in four years.
Starbucks gained up to 7.2 percent in late Nasdaq trading after saying the reductions amount to 7 percent of its workforce worldwide. The cuts include full- and part-time employees and will come over the next nine months. The details for the locations are still being finalized, the company said.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is to be removed from a U.S. terrorism watch list under a bill President Bush signed Tuesday.

Mandela and other members of the African National Congress have been on the list because of their fight against South Africa's apartheid regime, which gave way to majority rule in 1994.

Apartheid was the nation's system of legalized racial segregation that was enforced by the National Party government between 1948 and 1994.
